Due to recent government updates and the rise in the case numbers we have reviewed our COVID19 policies. All updates are outlined below and will be effective as of tomorrow. We appreciate your patience and understanding with these policies, we are doing everything we can to ensure we continue to operate in the safest way possible.
Please take the time to read through the following updates to familiarise yourself before your next visit.
Showers and changing facilities:
We are reopening our changing rooms and showers, and this will be limited to 4 people in the changing room at one time with changing in the designated spots. Only 1 person can use the main shower area at a time unless you are from the same household or in a bubble. During this time the disabled shower will be available for use but must be given as a priority to a person with disabilities when required. The toilets will no longer be one in one out due to changing rooms opening but please ensure you social distance from others whilst using them.
If you can come ready to play and shower at home please continue to do so.
Squash Phase 2:
From September 1st players may form a bubble with 5 others to play full court squash with. Bubbles consist of a maximum of six players and players within a ‘squash bubble’ are permitted to play full-court matches with the following modifications:
· Only two players on court at one time.
· Play best of three games.
· Play first to 11 points, sudden-death at 10-all.
· Use ‘Sides’ to maintain social distancing throughout the warm-up.
· During each game, when the first player reaches five points, both players should wipe away excessive sweat, and sanitise their hands and the ball. Repeat between games.
· The same player to serve / touch the ball during each half of a game, and at the halfway point, switch servers.
· Players must wear protective eyewear or visor.
· Don't wipe your hands on the wall.
· Players are not allowed to shout or raise their voice.
Please maintain social distancing when not on court, and continue follow your club’s/venue’s hygiene and cleaning policies.
Register your bubble at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1l_jI4HaeyiI0RJTVb_xEzMOmtNG7fvbHiTrLtmnGw0g/edit?ts=5f496adf
Rackets hire will be available for £1. After use please wipe down the racket and place in the racket bin by reception. Balls and shuttlecocks are still not available to hire but can be purchased from reception.
Courts 2 and 4 reopening:
After a successful reopening of Courts 1, 3 and 5 we have made the decision to reopen Courts 2 and 4. When changing court ends please use indicated side. Please continue to use one-way system to navigate around your court and avoid walking over additional courts.
Social distancing will still apply, therefore please be considerate to other courts.
We have an updated badminton socials programme which can be seen below. These sessions have limited numbers and will require pre booking via the Playwaze app or at https://bit.ly/3hhKLho Once you have set up an account search Wensum Sports Centre Charitable Association and click “Join”, to find all sessions that are listed and available to be booked. Due to the current restrictions on player numbers allowed per court we have increased the cost per player. This is to ensure the session running cost is recovered. Court bubbles will be in operation and shuttlecocks will be sanitised after every session.
If you are interested in playing in our league team next season you can register your interest.
Gym walk ins:
We are now accepting walk in sessions for gym members. Entrance into the gym is still subject to gym capacity, i.e. you may need to wait for someone to leave. The number of gym session slots that are available are increasing, with new slots at 07:00-10:30, 11:00-14:30, 15:00-18:30, 19:00-21:30.
Please check opening hours on weekends as we close at an earlier time. If you are planning to attend the gym within 1 hour of close you are still required to book in advance.
Please continue to wipe down equipment before and after use.

Check out this video to see what returning to the centre will look like.
We have implemented a one way system throughout the building with 4 different exits.
We are taking payments on site but request they be contactless if possible.
For our gym members returning to the gym, you will now need to book a session in advance so we can limit the capacity. To do so, contact us by phone/email/social media and speak to a member of staff.
We have moved equipment and designated certain machines as household only to adhere to social distancing regulations. The gym is closed for 30 minutes between each 90 minute booking to be cleaned and aired.
For the return to squash we have introduced a break of 20 minutes between every booking that allows time for the air to recirculate and our staff can clean the touch points. We also ask that players do not wipe their hands on the wall at any point. England squash's guidelines state that players must maintain social distancing on court by using games and practices such as 'sides' or 'front vs back' unless you are within the same household.

Upstairs in the sports hall we have closed courts 2 & 4 to ensure we have sufficient distance between players. Badminton England have now updated their regulations to allow doubles so we now have a maximum capacity of 6 players per court with no spectators. Chairs, nets and posts will be cleaned in the 30 minutes break between sessions. If you book a double slot you will be required to vacate during this period.

We aim to provide a broad range of activities to help fulfil the needs of our local community.
Our charity is voluntary based and continues to evolve as we seek to expand our community asset.
Having rescued the sports hall from closure in 2010, we are still aiming to improve our tenure with the pursuit of an extended lease from Norfolk County Council.
